Learning to think like God.

Becoming familiar with scripture and the way God words his thoughts is only a beginning in knowing God. There are many things God expects of his children as he wants his children to first be disciplined then prudent.  Disciplined as to avoid sin and prudent as to avoid being carried away with strange doctrine. Disciplined to use your authority in a godly manner.

I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. Colossians 2:4

To love God is to know him and to show our love for him better we have to be able to communicate his reasoning to those he loves. Meditation leads to a changed life, as Joshua 1:8 states meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.

Meditation helps us to be able to stand in the day of evil because we have a foundation of beliefs that are solid as a rock. This foundation is structured in truth which cannot be toppled.  As 2 Corinthians 13:8 says

We live in a world that suppresses the truth and although the world knows God's righteous decree those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:32 God asks his children to stop conforming to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Meditation helps you to sort out fact from fiction. Everyone who studies the gospel has a mind of their own and interprets the scriptures differently. Conceivably that is the main reason there are so many differences in opinion within the church. Nonetheless meditation strengthens your unity and resolve with God.

"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ 1 Corinthians 2:16.  We have all heard about being on the same page with those in authority, and meditation keeps us on the same page with our God. It changes the way we think to where our thoughts become identical with our God our father. Remember that God has said my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,"

We may not understand that our thoughts govern our actions. In the same way desires control our thoughts whether good or evil. The longer one thinks about their desires the more apt they are to pursue them. At the same time choosing what to think about can control our desires.  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Romans 8:6-7

Christians are noted for having a change of character in their life and meditation is God’s way for his children to learn specifically to think and act like our heavenly father. Consider what can you find wrong with anyone who thinks and acts like you. We all do what is right in our own eyes even if it is hostile to God so consider that we can control what we think about.

Meditating on God’s word is a spiritual way knowing the difference between what is right from wrong, good and evil. We all live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God and we need to remember that on Judgment day God will have the final word. On that day we will know that God’s tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21

Through meditation we can learn how God thinks and do what is pleasing in his sight. Meditation instills the truth (scriptures) in us empowering us to know for certain that we have done everything in our power to choose and accept the free gift of life that our heavenly father is pleased to give us.

When meditating I have come to realize that God speaks to me not so much in words but more with impressions that sends me to other passages of scripture which add to my knowledge of him.  The passage that stands out from the page is one that persistently confronts your way of life. Sooner than later you take that passage to heart and to pay attention to what it says. It definitely plays an important role to the changes God wants us to make in how we handle our lives.
